Plas Maenan

Love, Laughter, and Valley Views: Lou & Jonny’s Unforgettable Wedding at Plas Maenan

When Lou and Jonny began searching for their perfect wedding venue, they knew they wanted somewhere special. This is what they had to say about their wedding at Plas Maenan.

We found the venue by scrolling Google maps, which was a tip from my brother in law. I was so glad I found you because Plas Maenan had everything we were looking for.

The stand out for us was most definitely the stunning views overlooking the Conwy Valley, and the fact that, even if there was rain, the conservatory meant we could still enjoy the breathtaking scenery in our drinks reception.

The venue is a really nice size and had the perfect intimate feel for our numbers of 60 (for both day and evening), whilst still being an exclusive space. Finally, on our show round we were really impressed that the Wedding Consultant kept reiterating your commitment to maintenance, as well as all of the requests she had put in to further improve the space. We felt the staff were really proud of the space and cared about it!

We chose 1 June as our date as late spring/early summer is our favourite time of year and we think we actually get better weather then!

On the day we had a rather sodden start to the morning and so opted for an indoor ceremony. But the sun was shining late afternoon and we and our guests enjoyed our drinks reception in glorious sunshine outside on the terrace.

What theme did you have for your wedding?

We went with a lilac, purple and sage green theme, which felt quite Spring-like. We also opted for more wild flowers, country garden flowers to go with the country house theme.

Did you have a cake?

We didn’t have a cake as we weren’t that fussed and nobody noticed! 😂

What did the wedding party wear?

Jonny wore a blue linen mix suit and opted for a collarless shirt, which I love! It felt very authentic and very him.

For bridesmaids, I was keen to have a colour palette to tie things together but also keen to let everyone have freedom to choose. One wanted to go full bridesmaid with a satin dress, while my two sisters were keen on something they could wear again. They wore lilac and sage green.

My dress was very simple, and all about the beading detail at the back.

What flowers did you have?

We did the flowers ourselves – my mum thought we were mad. I knew I wanted bud vases and we had a fun (ISH!) day arranging them the day before. Even my dad got stuck in (lol).

I wanted a country garden feel so we had clematis, scabious, and astrantia. The only let down was that the delphiniums arrived in an unusable state, so we couldn’t incorporate them.

What was the decor like?

We did it ourselves using lilac, frilled runners, the flowers and then some peach coloured pillar candles in hurricane vases. Decorating the space and designing the tablescape was the bit I was most looking forward to!

Did you use any suppliers?

Little Lux Play supplied our gorgeous soft play and customised the colours for us (white and purple). I chose them because I was keen to have some entertainment for the toddlers but still wanted it to look wedding-y, and Lorna totally smashed it.

Also, a shout out to Aderyn String Duo for bringing the best Bridgerton vibes to our wedding breakfast. And the Dansette Alligators for being human jukeboxes, taking requests and getting everyone dancing!

What was the best part of the day?

Marrying Jonny! Of course 🙂

But other stand-out moments were enjoying drinks on the terrace with those views (so many guests said they felt like they were in a dream).

I loved the string duo and booking them for the dinner rather than the drinks reception meant that we got to enjoy them way more in my opinion.

Also, I feel at weddings that the dinner is where you lose some energy sometimes, because you’re stuck sat at your table, so it was nice to have some live music to keep the vibes up!

What advice would you give to other couples?

Don’t feel you need to stick with tradition for tradition’s sake. We didn’t have a cake and no one noticed! Also, we ditched the top table and were sat in the middle of the action with our guests, and it was so much fun!
